Artists & Poet

Born in Italy, but of Egyptian heritage, Alisha Ahmed [she/they] is a fat, queer non-binary, autistic, immigrant of colour now living in Wales with their spouse and two cats.

They spent the last two decades years writing about her experiences at the intersection of the systems of power from an intimist perspective, which have been collected in over three thousand pages of writings that borrow from poetry and diary style to keep an account of emotions rather than events.

Over the last few years, Alisha has taken their writings to spoken word performances, bringing excerpts from their diary that demonstrate the curiosity of a neuro divergent mind trying to make its way through the quagmire of neurotypical societal expectations.

Their artistic practice is eclectic including written poetry, spoken word, collage work, always steeped in Intersectional theory, which can be seen in their online content which also includes Educational Video essays that, beginning from common pop and media culture, aim to share with people ways to develop Media Literacy and Critical Thinking.

Gallery Exhibitions

All Money is Blood

This piece over canvas uses watercolour and collage techniques to bring to visual life the poem "All Money is Blood" which discusses themes of inequality, class divide and social struggle for safe housing in the United Kingdom from the 16th century to today.

The visual transmutation from poem to canvas presents a collage of Polaroid pictures of construction sites and houses for sale, juxtaposed to high end properties and historical documentation about the poor state of living condition for most of the British population throughout the 18th and 19th century. Watercolour are used to simulate the look of blood, whilst the entire piece is built on the written poem "All Money is Blood" handwritten by the artist in black sharpie as the background.

It was presented at the QUNX x PWSH Cardiff "Queer Futures" exhibition in August 2025.

Live exhibition of this piece featured QR Code that could be scanned by people's phones to access and read the poem in full.

The Constant Guest - Elysium Edit

This piece over two canvas uses watercolour and collage techniques to bring to visual life the poem "The Constant Guest" which discusses themes of marginalisation and survival as a fat, queer, autistic, immigrant of colour in the UK.

The visual transmutation from poem to canvas aims to bring the contrast between societal prejudice and expectations and my own ambitions and views of the world.

It was presented at Elysium Gallery in Swansea as part of the Tir Cwiar - Queer Land exhibition, part of the Queering Wales project by on Your Face collective, supported by the Arts Council of Wales.

Live exhibition of this piece featured a video projection of the artist performing a poem reading (silent) overlayed on their own shape on the canvas, and a number of A5 pamphlets that the audience could read and keep featuring the poem "The Constant Guest" in full.
